Indonesia: July 28, 1999


A police sergeant and his teenage son were shot dead in Aceh province, apparently by separatist gunmen. Rioting between Christians and Moslems in Ambon continued. The independence vote in East Timor has been delayed until August 30. The government sent a battalion of infantry to restore order.
