Israel has called for a ceasefire with the Palestinians. To show good faith, Israeli troops were ordered to cease offensive operations and only fire on Palestinians if their lives were in danger. The Palestinian leadership dismissed all this as an Israeli PR stunt. A ceasefire would be very difficult to arrange. The militant Palestinians factions will never agree and on the Israeli side the settlers in Palestinian territory are just as  opposed to moving out. The violence is greater than the earlier Intifada uprising. The army is not being scrutinized as much by the media, mainly because Israelis are more frustrated with, and fearful of, the Palestinians. Earlier in the day, Israeli troops made five more raids into Palestinian territory, for a total of 17 such raids in the last ten days. The latest raids were triggered by Palestinians firing four more mortar shells at Israeli targets.
