Nepal: July 22, 2001


Some 250 rebels attacked a police station 450 kilometers west of the capital, killing 17 policemen and wounding fifteen. At least 30 rebels died, and more were wounded. So far this month, 60 policemen have been killed in rebel attacks. A new prime minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, was appointed.
