The US has agreed to train seven battalions of West African troops so that they can take over the mission in Sierra Leone. Nigeria is providing the first two battalions and will eventually provide five of the seven. Nigeria has demanded that the UN appoint a Nigerian general to command the peacekeeping troops in Sierra Leone and change their mission from peacekeeping to peace enforcement (which would allow the UN troops to hunt down the RUF guerrillas).--Stephen V Cole
