Somalia: March 21, 2002

Several planeloads of weapons have been landed at an airport 90 kilometers west of the capital. No one admits to receiving the weapons and rumors fly about who supplied the weapons and who they are for. Some warlords say the weapons are from Libya, for Islamic extremists. More likely, the weapons are for the new government, and the weapons are from Yemen or the Gulf States. Meanwhile, German naval reconnaissance aircraft (based in Kenya) have begun patrolling the Somali coast ten hours a day. There are over a dozen warships off the Somali coast, intercepting suspicious ships entering or leaving Somalia.
