Internal clan clashes have become increasingly frequent in Somalia, resulting in 300 deaths in just the last month alone. At least 20 were killed and several dozens injured in fighting in the village of Masagowaa (around 330 miles north of Mogadishu). Two rival Abgal clan factions started fighting on 17 August after the murder of one tribesman the day before, with several hundred heavily armed militiamen involved by the 21st. Both sides have also brought in 'heavy artillery', including machine-guns. Since the fighting, began 38 people have been killed and some fifty injured. - Adam Geibel
