The government accused Malaysia of tolerating Islamic radical training camps in their territory. Thai police have reports from Islamic radicals that such camps exist. Malaysia has long tolerated many Islamic radicals, as long as they do not attempt any attacks in Malaysia. Some terrorists have been arrested, but a full scale crackdown has been avoided. This is a common attitude in Moslem countries, as there are many Islamic conservatives who support Islamic radicals, but do not participate in terrorist activities. A comprehensive crackdown on Islamic radicalism would involve a large, and feisty, portion of the population.
