Australia is reviewing options to replace the fleet oil tanker HMAS Westralia and the replenishment ship HMAS Success. They want a pair of multi-role ships able to carry diesel fuel for ships, aviation gasoline, food, and ammunition. They also want the 20,000-ton ships to meet all new maritime safety rules for oil tankers, as many foreign ports are starting to apply civilian requirements to naval ships that have previously been exempt.--Stephen V Cole
