France has found its helicopter availability rates (below 50 percent for Pumas, below 40 percent for Gazelles) is unacceptable and has allocated another $890 million for spare parts, training, and maintenance to address this issue. Analysts estimate that France will need to spend that amount every year for a decade to bring its helicopter fleet back to the 80 percent availability rate considered acceptable.--Stephen V Cole
