A Chinese aircraft company (Shenyang Aircraft) has developed a light truck that appears to be an exact copy of the American M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (also known as the "hummer".) The new Chinese vehicle is called "Zhanshen," ("God of War") and was recently shown to journalists. It is not known if the vehicle will be offered to foreign armies. While it is not uncommon for vehicle manufacturers to offer products that match those offered by a competitor, it is rare to build a duplicate of the other firm's vehicle. That could be grounds for lawsuits from the American manufacturer of the hummer. This would be likely if China sought to sell the Zhanshen overseas, but not if the truck is just used within China.
