Bahktar Associates, a small company based in California, has developed a new radar able to provide 3-dimensional images of objects up to 45.7 meters below the surface, including both land and water. The system would have to be carried by a helicopter flying rather low, which means it cannot really be used in combat but could be used in peacekeeping or treaty compliance work. It could also (theoretically, in future) produce relatively accurate maps of minefields, spotting each individual mine. --Stephen V Cole
