US missile launch warning satellites (called DSPs for Defense Support Program) detected a large meteorite (over 15 feet in diameter) over the Mediterranean on 6 June. About 30 such large meteorites are seen each year, and the US is concerned that India or Pakistan could mistake the radar track of one for a missile attack and launch nuclear weapons in retaliation.--Stephen V Cole
