France has commissioned its second new-generation nuclear missile submarine, the Temeraire. Like the Triomphant, it carries 16 M45 missiles which will be replaced in 2008 with longer-range M51s. The French government has given the go-ahead to the ASMP-A air-launched cruise missile (which carries a nuclear warhead). --Stephen V Cole
