Rebels kidnapped bishop Jose de Jesus Quintero, and unusual victim for the church has generally been left out of the decades of fighting. But earlier this year FARC kidnapped over a hundred people attending mass. These victims were later released without ransom, but the church excommunicated the rebels involved. Taking on the church in this largely Christian nation appears counterproductive. But, then, these are largely Marxist rebels.
