For two weeks, the government has threatened to extradite a captured FARC leader to the United States (where he is wanted on drug charges), unless FARC releases 63 of its "celebrity" hostages. Getting tried and jailed in the U.S. is much feared by Colombians, because bribes and prison breaks are much less likely to work. FARC refused to deal, and the FARC leader was sent off for trial in the United States, the first FARC leader to do so.
