  With the president off in the Netherlands negotiating with the exiled leader of the Aceh rebels, there are increasing rumors that the army will stage a coup. Army general Wiranto had been asked to resign his cabinet post because of accusations of his lack of action when the army promoted killings in East Timor. Wiranto refuses to go, but denies that there is any possibility of a coup.
