The army reported that the the military commander of the Aceh rebels had been shot in a clash with troops on January 16th and, while the man, Abdullah Syafei, had gotten away, he was now dying from his wounds. Apparently word of this situation spread among rebels and government informers picked it up and passed it to the army.
