Indonesia: July 24, 2000


A New Zealand peacekeeper was killed while with a patrol looking for armed militia crossing from West Timor. The patrol ran into a larger armed force, and during their withdrawal the New Zealand soldier was killed. In Aceh, two civilians were killed during a clash between rebels and soldiers. In the Malukus, snipers killed one policeman and wounded a soldier. Gunfire was heard in several parts of the Malukus and several houses were burned down.
