The vast minefields on the Iraqi border, left there after the 1980-88 war, are now being cleared. The mines have been causing more and more civilian casualties. Meanwhile, the government admitted that it is negotiating to buy S-300 anti-aircraft missiles, Mi-17 helicopters and Su-25 ground attack planes from Russia.
