Iraq: October 29, 2003

A Syrian man was caught while trying to move a  car bomb (with a ton of explosive) next to an Iraqi police station. The man was shot, and found to have a Syrian passport (and accent to match.) Intelligence work so far reveals that the terrorist organizations in Iraq is small, perhaps 200-400 support people, who  mainly handles the logistics of bringing in suicide bombers from other Arab countries, equipping them with explosives and getting them to their targets.

Coalition forces have been destroying a hundred tons of Iraqi ammunition a day, much of it too old and unreliable to use. But there are 650,000 tons of this stuff, much of it unguarded, lying about in Iraq. Coalition engineers are increasing the amount of stuff they destroy daily, but even with that, they see it taking some five years to destroy all these unneeded munitions.
