Russia has deployed a few Tu-95 bombers to bases in eastern Siberia. Two have recently been spotted at Anadyr and three at Tiksi. The Pentagon expects the Russians to begin flying the planes near Alaska, probing the air defense network there. The Russians have been steadily increasing their air operations over the last two years, albeit at a tiny fraction of the Cold War level.--Stephen V Cole
