Terrorism: November 10, 2001

How many people died in the World Trade Center? Nobody really knows. The city has a list (which it adjusts continually) with 4764 names, but this has already been reduced by several hundred as duplications are removed and people who were missing but found to be ok (and never bothered to tell the city that they shouldn't be on the list) are deleted. The police department has a confirmed list thought to be much smaller, and the New York Times
says it can identify only 2,950. --Stephen V Cole
