After years of tense negotiations, the contract has been signed to product the Meteor air-to-air missile, the European answer to AMRAAM and the Russian AA-12. Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Sweden have agreed to fund development. The first test firing will be in 2005 and the missile will enter service in 2011 or 2012. --Stephen V Cole
