The US plans to sell Egypt 179 surplus M109A2 and M109A3 self-propelled 155mm howitzers. The Egyptians already have 164 M109s. The newly-provided weapons will replace old towed Russian howitzers which lack the mobility to keep up with mechanized warfare.--Stephen V Cole
