Agents from the General Accounting Office tried to get into 21 super-secure federal sites (office buildings, airports, CIA headquarters, the Justice Department, the Pentagon, the State Department, and others) and succeeded. They were using fake police badges bought from catalogs and phony ID cards they made up on an ink-jet printer. The credentials were never questioned, even though the ID cards looked nothing like real ones. They were able to get into 18 of the buildings on the first try, and the other three on the second try. At 15 of the sites, they were able to reach outside the office suite of the top official, often a cabinet secretary or agency head.--Stephen V Cole
