The Northern Alliance launched a counter attack that advanced 15 kilometers into Taliban held territory. This is not difficult to do, as the battle area is vast and the number of troops involved relatively small. Advancing is one thing, staying on the newly won ground while not getting surrounded in turn is the hard part.
