  As has happened so many times before, Northern Alliance troops made a violent dawn attack against the Taliban and regained much territory in the Samangan, along the Uzbekistan border, cutting a Taliban supply route in the north. Elsewhere in the north, the Taliban used their handful of warplanes to attack Northern Alliance villages. Combat deaths in the last two weeks are approaching a thousand, with many more wounded.
