An armed CIA Predator drone, operating in the outskirts of Kabul, fired a Hellfire missile at renegade warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, but missed its target. Several of Hekmatyar's associates were killed or injured. Hekmatyar was the most violent of the warlords who fought the Russians in the 1980s and other Afghans during the 1990s. Hekmatyar has worked with the Taliban, and fought them, but mainly he serves himself. Hekmatyar is a religious conservative, with similar attitudes to the Taliban. Hekmatyar has been plotting to overthrow the current government of Afghanistan.
