  And then there's the drug war. Russian border guards in Tajikistan and Iranian troops on the Afghan border continue to give the drug smugglers a hard time. As the Afghan army grows larger, they will turn their attention to the drug trade. But right now, the Afghan army is busy asserting it's authority over warlords and independent minded tribal militias.
