The government has managed to convince many farmers to stop growing poppies. It's unclear how much this will mean in terms of a cut in drug production. It could be 30 percent or more. While the government has offered financial incentives to switch from poppies, there were other factors as well. There was an oversupply of drugs being produced, with prices dropping and the drug gangs getting more violent.
