The US government warned its citizens to avoid travel to Algeria. There is fear that Islamic radicals in Algeria are now going after foreigners, either to kidnap for ransom, or to kill them to make a political point. This fear comes from the Islamic rebels wanting to prevent economic reform. The decline in rebel strength has allowed more foreign investment, and influx of foreigners. The rebels want to try and reverse this.
