The South African army has selected the Alvis OMC Wasp for its recon units. The Wasp is a 2.1 ton vehicle meant for airborne or recon operations. The four wheel drive vehicle has a top speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It has an armored floor and front, for protection against mines. A C-130 can carry four Wasps, and the vehicle can be dropped by parachute.
