Leadership: May 5, 2001

The US Army is developing a "strategic plan for well-being" among its personnel. Without the money to raise pay, the Army is looking for minor policy decisions that could keep people in uniform. One example is a new policy not to transfer soldiers who have children in their senior year of high school. The idea is to show that the Army will take care of its people any way it can. The plan calls for soldiers who "feel good about themselves" in various ways (physically, spiritually, materially, and mentally) and who "take pride in being part of something bigger than themselves".--Stephen V Cole
