January 6, 2006: On December 29th Chai Huei-chen ( or Tsai Hui-chen) was promoted to major general and designated Director of Information Assurance, the country's senior most information warrior. The general, who ranks as a brigadier general in the US rank structure, is the first women to hold a senior "combat" command in the Taiwanese Armed Forces. Women currently make up about seven percent of Taiwan's military personnel, and serve mostly in administrative posts. However, women have also gravitated to intelligence work, where they have excelled, and produced several female generals throughout the world.
