Afghanistan: April 4, 2002

Al Qaeda (or Taliban) fired rockets at coalition troops in eastern Afghanistan. Hundreds of coalition troops continue to search caves in the area, with some 50 caves examined (for documents, equipment and weapons) so far.

Followers of pre-Taliban warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar were arrested and charged with planning assassinations and bombings in the capital. Some of those arrested are members of the interim government. Many Afghanistan factions are lying low in the wake of the Taliban collapse. But these many factions still have their guns, and their lust for power.
