Afghanistan: May 7, 2002

Warlords battling in northern Afghanistan have agreed to a truce and to withdraw their troops and tanks from Mazar-I-Sharif.

U.S., British and Canadian troops began scouring the Tori Khel mountains in Paktia province (on the Pakistan border.)

Over the past few months, the United States has been compiling a DNA database of these people. The Canadians questioned local villagers and found heretofore unknown graves of dozens of dead fighters.
