The air-to-air radar on the F-22 has been shown to have a range (against a one square meter target) of 120 miles, somewhat more than had been expected. The new Active Electronically Scanned Array system has proven even more revolutionary than expected, but has led to a problem. Installing the AESA radar on the F-15C would extend its radar range from the current 60 miles to about 105 miles. Critics have suggested that it would be acceptable to cancel the F-22 and refit the F-15s with the F-22's radars and missiles.--Stephen V Cole
