Thailand has become quite adept at buying military equipment via barter deals. Recently, they acquired four Mi-17 helicopters from Russia, in return for $25 million worth of rice. Another deal, with China, got 132 armored personnel carriers (at a cost of $300,000 each in longans, a popular Asian fruit). Thai rice and fruit have long been popular throughout Asia because of their high quality.
