Murphy's Law: April 19, 2003

The trade in war souvenirs has gone into overdrive after the fighting in Iraq died down. This is because Saddam Hussein was noted to creating and giving out "trophy weapons" to his favorites. The most notable of this genre is the gold plated AK-47. Several are known to exist, and one was caught at Heathrow Airport in Britain yesterday, as an airfreight shipment from Kuwait marked as "computer parts" was X-rayed and found to contain weapons. In addition to the loaded gold AK-47, there were also bayonets, a sniper rifle and RPG launchers. There will be more attempts to smuggle war booty out of Iraq, as there is after every war.
