Procurement: Why Egypt Buys Oshkosh

February22, 2007: The Egyptian army is buying another 30 Medium Tactical Trucks, from American firm Oshkosh Truck, for about $163,000 each. Egypt has been buying these vehicles, which the U.S. Army uses, since 1990. The Medium Tactical Truck has a five ton capacity, and is used by a number of foreign armies, including Afghanistan. The Oshkosh vehicles are quite rugged, very good at moving over rough ground, and are given some customization for each foreign customer.
