Procurement: Better Engines for F-15s

Archives

October 5, 2007: General
Electric (GE) Corporation has convinced Saudi Arabia to replace the Pratt &
Whitney F100 engines in its twin engine F-15 fighters with the GE F110-GE-129C engines. Saudi Arabia is buying 65 F110-GE-129C
engines, which will cost about $4.6 million each, and will install them as the
original Pratt & Whitney engines wear out. The GE engines are about 25
percent cheaper to maintain and operate. This has been the major selling point,
and led to similar sales to Singapore and South Korea.
