The U.S. Army is very much going into wartime mode to keep the Afghanistan and Iraqi operations supplied with troops. In order to find 500 more staff officers (for units going overseas), many peacetime education programs are being put on hold. The army has dozens of education programs for officers, which allow officers to get masters and doctorate degrees, at government expense. Hundreds of these officer-students have been ordered back to military duties. In the armys own schools, the training has been speeded up, to make more officers available for overseas deployment.
